The Village Premiere New York

BIG Apple glitterati would have reached for their passports when the invitation to the premiere of M. Night Shyamalan's latest creepy movie arrived.

Instead of the usual dazzling Manhattan event, the big night was held in the slightly less salubrious surrounds of Brooklyn's Prospect Park, where builders had spent a week erecting a mock 19th-century village, complete with tarot card readers and hooded torchbearers.

Of course, it had no effect on the A-list dress code except for stiletto-clad actor Julia Styles, who was heard to remark: "I'm sinking into the grass."

Luckily, guests including Joaquin Phoenix, Sigourney Weaver, Adrien Brody, Moby and Edie Falco were allowed back to civilisation for the after-party, which was held at Manhattan nightspot Figa.
